About the company search form
The Search Companies form displays when you click the find icon or link next to a company field.
It is used to search for and select a specific company to populate a field, for example to:
- Select an entitlement or order party
- Provide search criteria
Regular company search criteria
When the Search Companies form first displays, the following criteria are available:
| Name |
The name of the company. To search for a company with a specific name, type the name into the field. The Name field supports partial criteria using the wild card. For example, to search for all companies whose names begin with A, type A% in the company name field. |
| ID | The publisher’s identifier for the company. To search for a company with a specific pub ID, type the pub ID into the field. You must provide the exact pub ID. |
| Type |
The company type for the company. To search for a company that belongs to a specific company type, select the company type from the dropdown. For some searches, the company type may be restricted. For example, the end customer on an order may be required to belong to one of a selected list of company types. If the company type is restricted, the dropdown only contains the valid company types, and the results only include companies that belong to the valid company types. |
| Status |
The status (Active or Inactive) for the company. To search for a company with a specific status, select the status from the dropdown. For some searches, the company status may be restricted. In many cases, the selected company must be active. In that case, the Status field is locked to Active. |
Advanced company search criteria
To display additional criteria to help in your search, click Advanced Search.
The advanced criteria include:
| Alternate name |
Companies may have alternate names. To search for a company with a specific alternate name, type the name into the field. The Alternate name field supports partial criteria using the wild card. For example, to search for all companies whose alternate names begin with A, type A% in the alternate name field. |
| Country | The country in which the company is located. To search for a company located in a specific country, select the country from the dropdown. |
| Street |
The first line of the company street address. To search for a company with a specific street address, type the address into the field. The Street field supports partial criteria using the wild card. For example, to search for all companies with a street address on “Main Street” or “Main St.”, type %Main St% in the street address field. |
| City | The city in which the company is located. To search for a company located in a specific city, type the city into the field. |
| User email |
The email address of a user that belongs to the company. To search for a company that has a user with a specific email address, type the address into the field. Because searching by only the user email may take a long time, it is recommended that you use this criterion in addition to another criterion such as the company name. |
| User last name |
The last name of a user that belongs to the company. To search for a company that has a user with a specific last name, type the last name into the field. Because searching by only the user last name may take a long time, it is recommended that you use this criterion in addition to another criterion such as the company name. |
| Other properties | The publisher may provide other custom properties that you can use to search for companies. Depending on the property, you either type the value in a field or select a value from the dropdown. |
Other restrictions on company searches
In addition to the search criteria, there may be a limit on the number of matching companies that can display. For example, you may be required to provide criteria that matches no more than 5 companies.
If the number of matching companies is greater than that number, the results do not display. Instead, a message displays prompting you to provide additional criteria.
Searching for and selecting the company
After providing your search criteria, to find and select the company:
- Click Search Companies.
If no companies match your criteria, a ““No matches found”” message displays.
Otherwise, the list of matching companies displays.
- Use the Next and Previous links to navigate through the list. If a column heading is a hyperlink, then you can also sort the list by that column.
- When you see the company you want to select, click its Select link.
The form closes and the company you selected is used to populate the field.
