Using the Quick Key to activate entitlements and manage activated items

About the Quick Key

The Quick Key provides quick access to functions for activating entitlements and managing activated items.

The Quick Key module can display:

  • On the Home page
  • On the Activation menu

Using the Quick Key , you can provide a LAC or LACs in order to:

  • Activate entitlements associated with the LACs
  • View certificates generated from the LACs
  • Rehost activated items from a machine associated with the LACs
  • Regenerate keys for a machine or registration certificate containing activated items for the LACs

Providing the LAC or LACs to work with

In the LAC field, type the LAC you want to use. To work with more than one LAC:

  1. Click Add more LACs.
  • On the Add LACs form, for each LAC you want to add, type the LAC into one of the LAC fields.
  • If you run out of LAC fields, click Add Lines to add more fields.
  • When you’re finished, click Save.

Providing a machine name and locking ID

The Quick Key can include Machine name and Locking ID fields. The values provided in these fields are used as follows:

Activation

Used for the activation. Locking IDs are only used for machine activation. If no machine name is provided, is also used to search for the machine to activate on.

If activating on an existing machine, and there is already a value for the first required locking ID, then this locking ID is not used.

For machine activation, used as the machine to activate on.

If it doesn’t exist, is added to the appropriate company.

For registration activation, the registration certificate is generated and named automatically.

Rehost

You can only rehost from a machine, not from a registration certificate. Used on the rehost detail. If no machine name is provided, is also used to search for the machine to rehost to.

If rehosting to an existing machine, and there is already a value for the first required locking ID, then this locking ID is not used.

View certificate If no machine name is provided, then is used to search for the machine for which to view the certificate. Locking IDs are only on machine certificates. The machine or registration certificate for which to view the certificate
Regenerate keys If no machine name is provided, then is used to search for the machine for which to regenerate the keys. Locking IDs are only on machine certificates. The machine or registration certificate for which to regenerate the keys.

Activating entitlements from the Quick Key

To activate entitlements based on the selected LAC or LACs, click Activate.

Selecting or creating the activation machine

For machine activation, if you did not provide a machine name, then you must search for or create the machine. See Selecting the activation machine for details on selecting or creating the activation machine.

For registration activation, the registration certificate is generated and named automatically.

Completing the activation

For details on providing activation details, see Confirming and completing the activation for details on the Confirm and Complete pages of the process.

Viewing a certificate from the Quick Key

To view a certificate from the Quick Key , click View Certificate.

Poetic searches for the machines and registration certificates that match the provided LAC, locking ID, or machine name.

If there is only one match, then you are taken directly to the View Certificate page for that machine. See Fields on the View Certificate page.

If there are multiple matches, then the Search Activation Certificates page displays for you to select the machine or registration certificate. See Viewing a machine or registration certificate.

Rehosting activated items

The Quick Key includes an option to rehost activated items from machine certificates. For rehosts:

  • The LAC is used to search for the machine to rehost from
  • The locking ID and machine name are used for the machine to rehost to

To rehost quantities from the Quick Key , click Rehost.

Poetic uses the LAC to search for the machine to rehost from.

If the LAC has only been activated on one machine, then:

  • If you have provided a machine name for the machine to rehost to, or if you provided a locking ID that only belongs to a single machine, then you are taken directly to the detail page for the rehost process.
  • If you have not provided a machine name or locking ID, then the Search Machines form displays for you to select the machine to rehost to.

If the LAC has been activated on multiple machines, then the Search Machines page displays to select the machine to rehost from. After selecting the machine, then:

  • If you have provided a machine name for the machine to rehost to, or if you provided a locking ID that only belongs to a single machine, then you are taken directly to the detail page for the rehost process.
  • If you have not provided a machine name or locking ID, then the Search Machines form displays for you to select the machine to rehost to.

Regenerating keys

The Quick Key includes an option to regenerate keys. For regenerating keys, the LAC, locking ID, and machine name are all used to search for the machine or registration certificate to regenerate keys for.

To regenerate keys based on the provided criteria, click Regenerate Keys.

If only one machine or registration certificate matches the criteria you provided, then you are taken directly to the next page in the regenerate process.

If there are multiple matches, then the search page displays for you to select the machine or registration certificate. See Regenerating the keys on a machine or registration certificate.
