Setting the subject line for the email message
In the Subject field, type the subject line for the email message. The subject line can include data tags from the notification template, as long as they are not table or list tags.
Restrictions on the length of the subject line
A subject line cannot contain more than 200 characters. If you add a data tag to the subject line, and the data from that tag causes the subject line to be longer than 200 characters, it will be truncated.
Generating the subject line for automated reports
For automated reports, to ensure uniqueness of the subject line and to avoid spamming issues, the template subject line is not used. Instead, the subject line consists of:
- The value of the
SITE_DESCRIPTIONproperty in web.xml , followed by - The name/subject line specified when the report was scheduled, followed by
- Text that includes the name of the report
For example, Acme Asset Manager – Weekly entitlement report – Your Entitlement Extract Report
Providing the body of the email if the notification is sent as a PDF
If the notification is configured to be sent as a PDF attachment, then in the Body of the email (if notification sent as PDF) field, type the content to display in the body of the email that has the PDF attached.
If you include HTML markup in this field, it will be validated against XHTML 1.0.
Editing the notification template content
In the Template content text box, edit the content of the notification template. If the notification is sent as a PDF, then this is the content for the PDF file. Otherwise, the template content is used for the body of the email.
The text of the notification template is an HTML document. You use HTML markup to format the text.
You can also add data and conditional tags. For more information about data and conditional tags, see Using data and conditional tags in notification templates.
Using XHTML 1.0 for PDFs
If the notification is sent as a PDF attachment, Poetic validates the body of the email and the template content against XHTML 1.0, which is more strict than HTML.For complete information on XHTML 1.0, see http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/, in particular the section on the differences between HTML and XHTML.
Some of the additional rules for XHTML include:
- All tags must have ending tags. For example, you can’t just start a new paragraph with a <p> tag. You must first close the preceding paragraph with a </p>. For list items, you must have <li> and </li>.
- All tag names must be lower case. For example, you cannot use <P> and </P>. The tags must be <p> and </p>.
- All tags must be closed. This includes empty tags such as <hr> and <br>. For XHTML, they must be <hr/> and <br/>.
- All attribute values must be enclosed in quotes. For example, <table width=“500”>, not <table width=500>.
