Configuring Poetic Core Java reports

About Poetic Core Java reports

The Poetic Core Java reports generate tabular lists of records. Each report has a separate JSP page for the report criteria.

For these types of reports, you can:

  • Customize and localize the report name and report column headings
  • Control access to the report
  • Control the display order of the columns
  • Control access to the report columns

Selecting the report to edit

On the Search Reports page, to display the Report Maintenance page for a Poetic Java report, click the Edit link for the report.

Editing the report header information

The Report Header section contains general information about the report.

Report name

The Report name field contains the database name of the report. This name is used for:

  • The name of the security setting that controls access to the report
  • The list value code for the report in the REPORT_NAME list. The list is used to localize the report names.
  • The list name for the list of columns in the report. The list is used to localize the column headings.
Display name In the Display name field, type the name you want to use for the report.
Category From the Category dropdown, select the category of reports under which you want the report to be listed on the Reports page.

You can use the list value maintenance function to create and edit report categories. See Editing and localizing list values.

Description In the Description field, type a detailed description of the report.
Active

To make the report available to users, check the Active check box.

If the box is not checked, the report does not display on the Reports page, even if the security role has access to the report.

Can be scheduled** check box To allow users to schedule the report, check the Can be scheduled check box.
Max rows for download

In the Max rows for download field, type the maximum number of records that can be included in a downloaded version of the report.

This number can affect:

  • Performance. If the number of records is unlimited, some reports could take a long time to run and have an impact on the server performance
  • Importing. If the number of records is unlimited, then users must have access to an application that can import an unlimited number of records. For example, a larger report could produce up to two million rows of data. A typical spreadsheet application cannot handle that volume.

Controlling the report output

About the Report Columns section

The Report Columns section lists all of the fields that can be included in the report. The list includes the default column label and the display order. From this section, you can:

  • Manage the column headings and display order
  • Control the user roles that have access to each column

Managing the column headings and display order

To allow you to:

  • Customize and localize the column headings
  • Control the display order of the columns

Poetic stores the report columns in a list. To manage the display of the report columns, click Edit column headings and sequence.

The Filter List Values form displays, listing all of the report columns.

  • To edit the default column labels for the displayed columns, click Edit these values.
  • To localize the column labels for the displayed columns, click Localize these values.
  • To set the display order of all of the columns, click Change display sequence.

See Editing and localizing list values for details on editing, localizing, and changing the display order of list values.

Controlling access to each column

For each column, you set the security roles that have access to the column. If a user role does not have access to the column, then when the user generates the report, the column is not included.

To filter the security roles displayed, from the Security level dropdown, select the security level, then click Filter Roles.

For each column:

  • To check all of the check boxes for the displayed security roles, click Select All.
  • To clear all of the check boxes for the displayed security roles, click Clear All.
  • To allow the column to display for a specific security role, check the check box for that role.
  • To prevent the column from displaying for a specific security role, uncheck the check box for that role.
