Providing upgrade information

About upgrade activation

Upgrade activation can happen in the following ways:

  • When activating an entitlement for which an upgrade is available (upgradeable entitlement). You can then choose to activate either the new version or the current version. For example, when you activate an entitlement for SuperServer version 1.0, and an upgrade is available, you can activate either version 1.0 or version 2.0.
  • When activating an entitlement used to implement an upgrade (upgrade entitlement). You can then choose the upgrade path to apply the entitlement to. For example, upgrading from SuperServer 1.0 to SuperServer 2.0 requires that you purchase the SuperServer Upgrade. When you activate an entitlement for the SuperServer Upgrade, you are able to change your SuperServer 1.0 entitlements to SuperServer 2.0.
  • When upgrading activated items. For example, if you have already installed SuperServer version 1.0, you can upgrade those activated items to version 2.0.

These types of upgrade activation require that you:

  • Select the upgrade path. For example, if you are currently on SuperServer 1.0, you may be able to upgrade to either version 1.5 or version 1.7.
  • Specify the quantity to upgrade
  • If required, provide proof, in the form of upgrade entitlements, that you are eligible to receive the upgrade

About the Upgrade page of the activation process

The Upgrade page displays if:

  • More than one upgrade path applies to the upgrade activation
  • You can specify the quantity to upgrade
  • The upgrade requires that you provide proof of eligibility for the upgrade.

Selecting the upgrade path

In the Upgrade Path Selection section, if you have more than one option for performing the upgrade, select the correct option from the Upgrade path selection dropdown, then click Select.

When activating upgradeable entitlements, you also have the option to activate the current version instead of upgrading.

Specifying the quantity to upgrade

After you select the upgrade path, the Upgrade Path Selection section expands to include a table listing the available:

  • Upgradeable entitlements selected for activation
  • Upgradeable items on the selected machine

For each line, if you can set the quantity to upgrade, the Qty to Upgrade field is editable. For example, if you have 20 seats installed on a machine, you may want to upgrade only 10 of those seats.

After setting the quantities to upgrade, click Apply.

About providing proof of eligibility for the upgrade

Some upgrades require that you purchase upgrade entitlements in order to be eligible. If upgrade entitlements are required for the selected upgrade path, then the Proof of Upgrade Eligibility section displays beneath the Upgrade Path Selection section.

To display a list of the required upgrade entitlements, including the required quantity, click What’s Required to Upgrade.

Requesting the required upgrade entitlements

If you have not yet purchased the required upgrade entitlements, then from the Proof of upgrade options dropdown, select I need to request the upgrades.

When you select this option, the list of required upgrade products and quantities displays. In the Request Qty column, type the quantity you need to request.

Applying existing LACs to meet the requirements

If you already purchased the required upgrade entitlements, then from the Proof of upgrade options dropdown, select I want to apply existing LACs or entitlements.

The section expands to include:

  • On the left, a dropdown to select LACs to apply to the required upgrade entitlements. The system automatically searches for LACs to apply that are for the required upgrade products and belong to the registered company.
  • On the right, the upgrade requirement list of required upgrade entitlements and quantities.

Selecting LACs to apply to the requirement

The LAC selection dropdown contains LACs you can apply to the upgrade requirement.

To apply a LAC to the upgrade requirement:

  1. Select the LAC from the dropdown.
  • Click Add. The Qty Validated column in the entitlement list is updated to apply the available quantities from the selected LAC.

The selected LAC is added to the LACs Applied list below the LAC selection dropdown.

To remove a selected LAC from the applied LACs, click the Remove link for that LAC. The Qty Validated column in the entitlement list is updated to remove the quantities from the removed LAC.

Managing the applied entitlements for each upgrade requirement

In the entitlement list, to view the details for the LACs to apply to an upgrade requirement, click View Details.

The Target qty is the value from the Qty Needed column.

Below that is a list of the current entitlements applied to the upgrade requirement. For each entitlement, the list includes:

  • The LAC
  • The entitlement ID
  • The quantity on the entitlement
  • The quantity applied to the selected upgrade requirement

You can use the Qty to Apply field to edit the quantity applied. To remove a selected LAC from the list, click the Remove link.

To manually add a new entitlement to the list:

  1. Click Add line.
  • Click the Find link to search for and select the entitlement.
  • In the Qty to Apply field, type the quantity to apply from the selected entitlement.

When you have finished making changes to the entitlement list, click Validate to update the validated quantity for the upgrade requirement.

Continuing the activation

When you have finished providing the upgrade information, click Next.

If you needed to request the required upgrade entitlements, the Confirm page displays. See Confirming and completing the activation.

If you were able to provide the required upgrade entitlements, then:

  • For machine activation, the Activate page displays. See Providing activation details.
  • For registration activation, you complete the activation process.
