What is Poetic?
Poetic is a web-based system for managing entitlement and subscription programs. An entitlement usually represents a license for a product offered by the publisher, could also be for a piece of hardware, a maintenance subscription, or an upgrade.
Poetic functions
Poetic includes functions to support the following areas of entitlement management:
| Entitlement generation and updates | Poetic includes functions to create and update entitlements. Poetic users can view detailed information about each entitlement. Privileged users can also update some entitlement information. |
| Order creation and fulfillment | Customers may obtain entitlements by placing orders. Poetic provides functions to create and process orders. |
| Activation and key generation |
Customers may need to retrieve a license key in order to use the products they purchased. A key may be a simple serial number or a more complex binary file. Poetic provides functions for generating and managing these keys. |
| Subscriptions and renewals |
Publishers may offer subscription-based entitlements. For example, customers may purchase entitlements that give them the right to receive free upgrades for a year. These entitlements need to be renewed periodically. Poetic provides functions for creating and renewing subscriptions. |
| Upgrades |
As new versions of products are released, publishers may offer the ability for customers to upgrade their existing licenses. Poetic provides functions for offering these upgrades. |
Poetic also includes general functions for:
- Managing information about companies and users
- Generating reports from the database
What type of Poetic user are you?
| Administrator |
Administrator users work for the publisher and have access to virtually all of the functions in Poetic. They can configure Poetic functions, monitor Poetic processing, and perform actions on behalf of channel partners and end customers. |
| Channel partner |
Channel partners are companies such as distributors and resellers who purchase entitlements in order to sell them to other channel partners or to end customers. In Poetic, users who belong to a channel partner can manage their own account information, and may sometimes be able to perform actions on behalf of end customers. |
| End customer |
End customers are companies who purchase entitlements for their own use, either directly from the publisher or from a channel partner. Poetic end customer users can manage their own account information, and perform actions for themselves and their company. |

- Your access to Poetic’s functions and features is controlled by the application configuration and the security settings associated with your security role. You may be able to view information in this help system about functions you do not have access to.
- Publishers have the option to customize all of the text that displays on each page. The labels and page titles that are referred to in the help may not match the text in the application.
